A BRIEF ON
SUPREME COURT ADVOCATE ON RECORD EXAMINATION
Every law student or practicing lawyer wishing to practice and file cases in Supreme Court should appear for this examination, one can obviously practice or argue upon matters in Supreme Court but only a Supreme Court advocate on record can file the matter before Supreme Court. This exam is being organized every year and approximately 9-10% people are able to clear it out of 2500 people appearing every year.
Eligibility for this exam is you must have at least four years of experience in practicing law in any high court or in Supreme Court. After that you must be practicing for at least one year under an AOR who has the experience of 10 years and you have to submit that certificate to AOR registry then you are ready to appear for this exam.
You must be aware about the practice and procedure of the supreme court also what are the filing procedures apart from the that what are the constitutional provisions that deal with it like article 32, 131, 32, 156 supreme court rules of 2013 you should be Thorough with that and also be aware about the basic procedure and also be very clear about drafting we should know how to draught a special leave petition review petition or writ petition.
In the exam there are four papers first is practice and procedure this deals with the practices and procedures of the supreme court this is of 100 marks paper for this you must study supreme court rules 2013 also you must have gained good practical knowledge while practicing under AOR.
Second paper is about drafting which is again of 100 marks this paper contains two parts part I &II, out of which one of the part is mandatory in this they give facts of a case and you have to draft a petition based on those facts.
You can also get resource material from the Supreme Court Bar Association Library also lectures are held one month prior to exam and one must attend those lectures and make notes and clarify your doubts which is very helpful.
